Hey guys and gals, I need some input on pre-competition dieting and training. I have a buddy that is 21, 6'2" and weighs 225#. He wants to compete in September. He's been training about 3-4 years and has put on some good size. Should he try top bulk up then cut up or just try to gain quality muscle? He's a natural trainer, so gear is out of the question at this point in time. What tips can you give me? Thanx, Nico

Thanx for the quick reply. He needs more size and is about 12% fat right now. He's very determined to compete and wants to go to the top. I'm sure gear will figure in sometime after his first meet. I won't bring it up just yet.

I did my first contest "natural." I vowed to never compete "that small" again. Sad thing is - it's the best placing I had at any contest I entered.

BUT - that's gonna change in 2 weeks! :)

You say should he bulk up and then cut or just try to gain quality muscle.

He of course will need to cut no matter what.

Why don't you go ahead and get him to join, it would be easier to talk to him directly.
