Ive been experimenting with training splits lately. For the past 2 yrs ive done a fairly standard westside routine and before that a fairly basic bodybuilding split so I decided to try something different.
Id appreciate some criticism on my current routine and another variation of it that I thought up. What im doing now is training 7 days per week one way or another be it standard weightlifting (powerlifting in my case), GPP work using Strongman impliments or sled pulling, martial arts (jeet kun do/ju-jitzu), or regular cardio.
Heres how it breaks down:
Mon- 30min Cardio
Tues- Bench/Chest, Back, Traps
Wed- Squat/Deadlift
Thurs- Full Contact Fighting (very tough cardio workout)
Fri- Board work/Tri's/Shoulders/Bi's/Grip work (all done with light weight and intensity except for board and grip work)
Sat- Ju-Jitzu
Sun- GPP: Strongman/Sled Work
I know it seems like overtraining but the only days where my muscles are doing tons of work on tues and wed all the other days it alot of strength-endurance. So far the workout has been working well, ive actually gotten bigger in the past 2 weeks probably due to my muscles getting more rest from actual lifting.
Heres what ive been thinking about doing and what I could use some advice on. What if I only trained in the gym 2x per week, lets say Mon and Thurs, both days being full-body workouts that I would do as a double split. For example Monday I would do my Squat/Deadlift workout in the morning and my entire upper body at night. Thursday I would do my upper body in the morning and Squat/Deadlift at night. Then on Thursdays and Saturday I would do my martial arts and on tuesdays, wednesdays, friday, and sunday id do some GPP work or strongman impliments/odd object lifting.
Wadday think????
