What’s the longest you have kept a car that you bought brand new?

I have a 16, almost 17 yr old Toyota. That said I used to sell cars and in my experience doing that maybe 95% of people are ready for a new car and buy one after 5 years once their loan is paid off or almost paid off. Cars are the thing anyone owns that depreciates in value faster than anything else (except maybe boats) but there is much more emotionally attached to the decision than logical.

Chevy Silverado for a bit over 15 years. A good friend I went to HS with was the service department manager. The last time I had to bring it in he called me and said he wasn't fixing it. It was about to completely fall apart. Almost 180,000 miles on it. Rode it rough too. I hunt and fish so it drove through many fields in its day.

Oh! I also have a 96 Supra. I have only had it about 4 years but I got it from the original owner!

I have the engine on the stand now, block has been machined and prepped. Just waiting on parts. It will be my daily driver when I don’t feel like driving the TRX

I have a 1987 Supra. Those 2JZ engines were built 15 years ahead of their time. The 7mgte is a good engine too, just have to install a metal head gasket and it can handle quite a bit of boost and abuse

2019 Sierra Denali. I usually only hold onto a vehicle for 2-3 year max. But I love this thing and will prob drive it until the wheels fall off.

Well growing up in south Mississippi does that to ya and running a machine shop helps.
I haven't had it at the track yet but it's not far off 12's I'd guess , it's putting 511hp to the wheels on the motor (416ci) My buddies stock trackhawk is faster but not shockingly so and he is in the low 11's
The 6.4 hemi motor are a great base to build a TON of power

Haha south Arkansas here. Many
Many trips Greenville and i have family in Vicksburg

It wasn't me, originally, but the last vehicle I bought. 1997 Chevy Blazer I bought from one of the directors at work. He's the original owner, bought it brand new. 350k miles, original engine, tranny and drivetrain. Literally the only issue is that it burns a LITTLE oil. I seriously don't give a fuck about cars as a status symbol and will drive it until it doesn't go anymore.

My daughter is driving the 2004 CR-V I bought new, back 18 years ago, and its still running just fine.
I buy 'em, and drive 'em til they die... Not a fan of debt, payments, etc. (Paid off house over a decade ago as well).
Zero loans, zero credit cards, etc (hate it)

I run my vehicles through my business to I trade them out every two years. I definitely would NOT do that otherwise. But I have a pretty nice daily driver and a sweet weekend car.

We do tend to buy cars new, pay them off in 1-3 years, and keep for 9-10 years. I'm getting ready to buy a new one and my cadillac is a '13 so we are closing in on the 10 year mark.
Yeah, about like us. I bought a new Cadillac Cts back in 2017 and got a 7 year bumper to bumper warranty on it through GM by adding 3 more years to the factory warranty. Still have 2 more years.

Some cars, if kept long enough, will eventually start to climb in value again. My Porsche has been doing that the past 5 years or so.

I wouldn’t keep a modern car outside of its warranty, they’re just rolling computers filled with unfixable fatal design flaws…

Modern as in made in the last 10 years give or take, but some of the more “sophisticated” models have been like that since the early 2000’s…..
You and I think alike. I'll pay a little more for the peace of mind knowing I'm never going to have an unexpected huge bill come up.

I think for folks that never want a car out of warranty and don't drive a massive amount of Mike's, a lease is a good idea.

I have a 2013 Honda Civic I have for about 5 years. I originally bought it as I was commuting but for the last 2 yrs I have worked from home. I thought about buying a new car but I barely drive as the gym is only 3 miles away and it seems a frivolous purchase. I figure I will buy property or another home to rent out when the economy drops

Miles, lol.

Seems i usually get 12-15 years out of my trucks before i find them less then reliable. With the way new vehicles depreciate i keep them as long as i can to spread the cost out.

A 2004 jaguar xkr portfolio with close to 150k miles. Surprisingly has cost very little to maintain it. Love having a convertible to drive in the summer. Can fit a couple sets of golf clubs in the trunk.

I own a 2007 911 turbo that I bought used in 2014. So had that 8 years now. Plan on keeping that forever.

Another car we have is a 2010 Volvo XC60 that we bought new. So we have had that 12 years.

Dang, a new Turbo S. Youre looking at over $200k there. Nice car.
Iv'e owned a 928S4, a Cayman S and a couple 911's. The Turbo S Cab is on my bucket list. I plan on semi retiring and I'll work a couple days a week to pay for a few toys. The 911 4S is amazing. It has carbon fiber interior, chrono, sport and sport plus. The sport plus is crazy fast and I have never done the Launch before. However, I simply love the Turbo S and will cross that off at some point. My 4S only has 35k mile on it. Mine is white and tan, yours?
