What's the worst environment that you have ever trained in?

Curious to see what the worst training environment that others have experienced?

I've been locked in my workplace for the past 46 days. I work for a large chemical manufacturer and our union went on strike. As a result, all of the salary employee's must run the facility to maintain business and keep our jobs. I have minimal weight training equipment but am making the most of it. I was planning on doing the Junior USA in spring of '06. Obviously at this point my goal is probably not attainable due to my circumstances (the strike looks to last for several more months).

What are some other poor training experiences that board members have encountered...?

the worst was a family ymca to much taulking and dumb shit there readio with the well bros it was not hard core sweat and a iron rust thats for sure where i love to train

Well, when I first started, I was doing bench press on a skateboard with two cinder blocks on each end of a piece of a bed frame.:D

hahah cool :) worst I had stuck prison earlier in year for 2 1/2 months no weights allowed where I was, so had to lift inmates instead :)

...

Over here we have Fatness First chain of gyms (huge chain of mass produced fitness for the average wannabe, real name Fitness First). They charge too much, equipment is perfectly suited to the half-arsed trainer and the staff are dipshits. Oh and the apparently heterosexual bathrooms had far more scrotum drying and nude brushing of teeth going on than I've seen in our more outwardly gay gyms here (like City Gym or Gold's Taylor Square).

Someone bought me a membership there to train them. I went twice and said fuck the money, I can't step foot in there again.

BigBoyJ...cinder blocks and a skateboard that's not a bad environment, that's just plain hardcore trainin'!!!

BigKiwi....I think ya got me on worst environment. I can't imagine those conditions. I'm sure that everyday inside was a struggle. I would imagine that those conditions were very challenging from an emotional perspective.

A family style gym where the DB's only went up to 50 and there were only about 6-45lb plates in the whole gym. Everyone looked at me like I was a freak in there. I was out of town on a business trip and my job paid for a week at this gym but man it sucked pretty bad. Were some very hot rich white girls walking around in there. Of course you know you have to show off in that environement.

My company has a wellness center for the employees. The equipment is perfect for anybody that wants to be a bodybuilder really. It's down fall is the music. OMG wall to wall speakers system. We used to listen to a radio station there that was great for working out... but the gay/lesbians of the company complained that the station was not gay/lesbian friendly. So that ended. The retired peeps from the company still have membership there... they complained that the upbeat music was not friendly to them... so the music ended up with 'relaxation' music. That's right... relaxation music in a gym!

So I have a Baleys membership and use the Co Wellness Center only when I have too.

Good music is a must. And the louder the better!

I spent 6 years in the NAVY, 5 of them on a ship. Try squattin and benching while the ship is pitchin and rolling, one second you feel like He-Man and another second you feel like just givin up training forever, it sucked. Than you have to deal 2,000 Marines where that's all they have to do is eat, lift, and clean their guns.....Damn shoulda went to the Corp.

Prison for me. Couldnt even lift in there. Sucked.

I did a college internship where they said they had a great fitness center.

When I got there they had a few DB's (up to 50lbs.) and one of those all in one lat pulldown, leg extension, chest press machines.

So that's what I had for 6 months

OUCH!

The worst was my unfinished basement with dirt floors and spiders. Still, had an olympic set and a bunch of regular weights and was able to make pretty good progress down there.

Hope you're not speaking euphamistically lol!

Worst place was the YMCA in Logansport IN! Talk about a POS!

Best and Worst

Well I was in Army and we had a camp on top of a mountian in Kosovo/Macedonia border on the pass during winter for a month one platoon

We set up a bench and some free weights in a non heated tent on a wooden platform 3 feet snow outside and wind you would not believe

Made good gains but it was damn cold trained in mulitple layers

WTF half the board has been incarcerated

I have only been to jail and no training at all there or food

Other than prison I would say anywhere you can train is good

La Fitness, lol

this may be funny to some but the worst environment is the one I'm in now at a big cororate gym. There are WAY too many people, packed in there like sardines, not enough weights, and the members there aren't serious trainers so they have no gym ettiquette. I don't know if there is some sort of pt training at the time that I go but it seems that there are just as many pts as there are members. I kid you not in most instances I can not hold my arms out to either side without touching someone on both sides. They don't care about quality. It's just about how many members htey can get.

LOL I just saw BW made the same reply without the explanation.

yes..I forgot to mention that... our wellness center (Corporate Gym), also has major ettiquette issues.... I'm glad I'm a mild person. And the wellness center also takes on all the light duty/physical therapy patients of the company too. Working out there will age you.... because 'THEY' are there too... and 'THEY' will turn you.
