Boy is this discouraging.....

I just had a freind who competed as a heavyweight in the Central States in Detroit. I did not get to go due to having to work. Anyhow I guess he looked unreal. Ripped and big. Hes 230 at 5'11'' and peeled. Anyhow he took second. This is his second time placeing second. I saw the video of his last Central states and he could have easily won it all but the other heavyweight was a little bigger in the back. Anyways the sucky thing is he comes back almost 2 years later looking better than ever and gets second. The true deal of it all is to look the best "you" can look for you. I know this but it would be like a slap in the face. I know everyone says politics etc... I usually dont believe too much in the politics ruining the judging but I may change my mind about this. I just hope this doesnt damper his spirits because he was doing very well. It makes me wonder if I want to compete agian. Is it no matter what you cant take first????? Just thought I would see what other people think about this subject. Later.

I missed an overall open by one point, then a week later I missed an overall by one point again. Shit happens, just gotta pick up where you left off and not think about it too much.

Its just the nature of the game when you enter a subjective sport. Alot of variables play into a judges decision. Second place isn't bad. If he would have competed a day later maybe he would have gotten first, you never know in this sport what the judges are after. Just do the best you can becuase in the end the only real competition is yourself. Just have fun with it and enjoy the process of competition.

Just look what we saw in the Olympics. Imagine winning and then 2 days later after 2nd guessing and recalculating, being asked to relinquish your title. Talk about dissappointment. Subjectivity is the name of the game here, unfortunately. For every person that think you should have won there will be just as many who think you should have lost. Will be interesting to see what impact if any the new judging practices at the Olympia have on this.

At least your friend has made some concrete, solid, measurable gains that he can take pride in. They cant take that away.
