Hey PM'ers,

I know this topic has been discussed before and I remember reading that some of you have experimented with a diet with all/majority of protein intake coming from liquids/powders.

I recently got assigned to a crazy schedule at work and have been missing my solid meals due to being so busy. I'm considering trying a diet where all my meals at work (5) are coming from a Whey/Casein powder. Of course my carbs will remain solid.

Any feedback on experience with this type of diet would help. I believe Phil used/uses a liquid protein dominant diet, so that is definitely encouraging.

Thanks!
HK

i have been in this situation and have used powders as a main source of protein in my diet and had no problems whatsoever. just make sure you use a very high quality protein supplement and add some fiber and fat to it. even to this day i still use 50% of my protein from isopure or LBA's for total protein and am growing just fine. look into liquid beef amino's from phil hernon, this would be ideal for you. good luck

we have probably all been in a situation like you find urself in the past. I would say that it can be done but would advise you to find ways to make the shakes not be the same every time for ur taste buds. You can probably still get one or two whole food meals in a day and I see no reason why you cannot get one in on your lunch break

Thanks for the feedback. I would actually still have my Eggs and Oatmeal for breakfast, and my Steak for Dinner (last meal). It's just while at work, I think it'd be MUCH more easier if I had Protein Drinks w/ a solid carb for 5 meals during my 11 hour shifts.

Of course my goal is not to just "maintain"...if calories/macronutrients are the same as if i kept eating my solid meals, I'd still like to make GAINS off a Protein Powder/Liquid dominant diet.

What do you think?

i never had a problem gaining with a majority of protein coming from powder, like i said before just make sure its high quality.

Protein powders make up 50-60% of my protein intake both in the offseason and precontest. I don't think doing that has hindered my progress at all; if anything, it has helped me remain consistent with my diet and it also gives my digestive system a break from solid sources.

LIQUID DIET

A LIQUID DIET FROM POWDERS IS A LOT DIFFERENT THAN A LIQUID DIET FROM MY AMINOS. I NEVER USE A DIET FULL OF POWDERS, JUST AMINOS.

LBA's

A LIQUID DIET FROM POWDERS IS A LOT DIFFERENT THAN A LIQUID DIET FROM MY AMINOS. I NEVER USE A DIET FULL OF POWDERS, JUST AMINOS.

so theoretically, what you're sayin Phil is that i could eat all my Fats and Carbs all day, but use your Aminos exclusively for my daily protein intake?

From what i understand, the LBAs are 5g of protein per serving. 5o i need to take in equal amounts of protein grams per day with the LBAs as i do with powders and meats now? that'd be pretty expensive!

I'm currently using something similar to what Phil is saying. I am consuming 60-70% of my meals in liquid form. I am using a whey isolate with this. But I use LBA all day long and mix with my liquid meals. I use skim milk and add some rolled oats and some other fiber to this. Every meal except for my two maybe three solid food meals contains LBA. I can not say enough about this way of eating except you must try it. I am putting on size without fat and leaning out as I go. My training is on fire at this point. I have never felt better. I take my hat of to PHIL. This guy was and still is way ahead of most of us in the BBing stakes. The constant flow of aminos to the body by way of these LBA's has to be the key. I am currently using a bottle every two days. I just use a stick mixer and whizz up my meals and down the hatch. Takes all of about three to five minutes!!

just one spoon of synthepure will give you some 25g of quality whey protein.

Just make sure you are getting very high quality powders such as Isolate or LBAs. From what I have read, most pros seem to drink upto 50% of their meals in the offseason. What is better than a 500 calorie shake comprised of whey isolate/micellar caesin with 2 tablspoons of flax? Maybe a cheeseburger!

With much of your protein coming from powders it is very advisable to make sure you are getting adequate fiber intake.

Yes, fibre is very important for the diet and to keep you regular. Also for healthy bowel and colon.

fiber

yes, i get alot of fiber in...about 9grams from the carbs i eat with each of my 4-5 shakes. i probably average 50 grams of fiber per day. its easy for me as i favor a high carb diet (400-450g's /day) as apposed to the recent popular higher fat diets.

protein is 250-300/day and i weigh 200lbs lean. since im now gwtting the majority of my protein from high quality powders, im gonna experiment with less protein and raise the carbs.
