In the March 2005 Muscle Mag International on page 100 (for those in Australasia) there is an article written by Brian Mangravite called "Getting Razor Cuts...Like a blow torch through butter"

In that article he discusses an Atkins technique of having 90% of your dieting calories come from fat for 3 days and then bringing protein back in etc....the claim is that this will cause rapid fat loss and spare muscle (as long as your total calories are low of course)

Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it? Supposedly it is what Atkins did for obese people.

Just doesn't sound right to me.

You need to remember that Atkins is designed to work for the "masses" - couch potatoes that don't do much exercise.

i agree with exel.its all diferent ball game for us.
i did tryed it myself few years ago,and trust me it was not want i wanted to be.
but again,i knew the guy who was getting ready for USA's maybe 5 years ago,and hes diet was on the pizza, beet that.
but its only very few who can do it.

A freind of mine ate Snickers and Milky ways all through his contest and up to the show and was shredded and even one his division.

Hi all,

The article that I am referring to was written for bodybuilders not sedentary people, that is why it was in Muscle Mag International.

The idea was adapted from the Atkins Diet just like the other low carb bodybuilding diets like Body Opus and Cyclic Ketogenic Diets etc...

How about posting the artical or outlining it more in detail so we can make judgement ?

i believe the only people that can prolly work with this diet are the ectomorphic people turned mesomoprhic through years and years of training- like a david henry- my trainer was similar to that- ate mcdonalds, and junk every day but still was lean as hell, but he did not have that unreal mass true meso endo people can achieve- not a smart thing to do imho

Ok I have scanned the article and saved as a .pdf I cannot attach it here because it is 1.3 MB in size. So if anyone is interested send me a pvt msg. and I will email the article to you. ;)

If you are interested in ketogenic diets, get BodyOpus by Duchaine. Awesome book, diet qorks fantastically well, the only problem, or my problem, is that I can't stick with it more than 2 weeks as I absolutely feel like puking when I eat any more of the fatty stuff.

Not that I'm implying a talent or I'm big but when I did the keto diets I always got along better completely avoiding carbs. I'd eat meat and water for three days and normal but not stupid for one day and then back on. I'd eat a vitamin and a calcium at every meal(6 of them). I had to rotate proteins every day or I'd gag. It was like the aminos that make the proteins were getting topped off and the body said hell no. If I changed meat everyday I had no problems. I'd eat veggies for the carb day. It took a month to make it a lifestyle so that it was no effort. Remarried and kids since then so you know what I look like now. The diet took me down to striated glutes though. I don't know if it did anything but I'd eat sugary shit before bed to get the carbs cleaned out by morning, if that makes sense. The cool part was zero hunger. If you got busy, you'd forget to eat.

The biggest advantage of ketodiets are idd as Kahn says, you're almost never hungy.

Carbs make you hungry

That's the diet I used BodyOpus by Duchaine, and I lost alot of weight! That diet is awesome as long as you follow it. I consumed Diet Coke, steak, Beef, Block Cheese, Ham, Tuna ect.. I bought Ketostix's, and I was falling into Ketosis within 36 hours after my last Carb meal. I used Flaxseed oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil with my Protein shakes. Great diet as long as you stay faithful to it...

I was eating bacon, masdaam cheese (65% fat), egg yolks, etc. Only one avocado a day due to the carb content. The treat was strawberries (3g of carbs per 100g) as you can have up to 30g of carbs per dayw ithout getting out of ketosis.

You can get into ketosis within 8 hours if you have 3IU of Hum_r every 4 hours, without any carbs.

Lyle MacDonald has written an excellent book on ketogenic diets. It is called:
The Ketogenic Diet: A complete guide for the dieter and practioner.

I am using what I learned from that book and combining it with Synthetek glutamine and creatine and Musashi BCAA and Essential amino acids along with a multivitamin. The fat that I use is UDO's Choice. I feel that this helps me retain my muscle while on low calories.

I was eating bacon to and I used the diet Coke as a treat during the week. One thing that surprised me was that I forgot to bring something to eat to work. So I bought a Diet Coke every 2 hours and when I tested to see if I was still in Ketosis, to my surprise I was. I stayed away from fruit, but now I might try a small amount of strawberries :D !

I'm going to have to look into this! Any other thoughts on Glucose Disposal agents such as R-ALA?

Insulin is the easiest and most predictable. You know exactly where you are - do 3IU every 4 hours. By your 3rd shot, you will be in ketosis, without any drama or lethargy, etc.

KETO

The leanest I have ever been was on a time CKD diet. Basiclly One carb meal post workout, usally a Big jug of gatorade or some candy. The rest of the day was Protein shakes with Flax or olive oil,or meat and veggies. Worked great for me.
