I have been getting all my calories from whey/egg/casein protein and almonds.

So pretty much mostly fat and protein in my diet. ALthough the fat is coming from a healthy source (almonds).

Is this diet healthy in the long run in terms of HDL, LDL, Cholestrol and Hepatic enzymes. I know the best way is to get tested which I am going to in a few months but wanted to know for curosities sake.

I know some of you members are on similar diet. i believe Jethro.. Can you chime in.
thanks

Of course eating fruits and grains for their fibers, vitamins, enzymes, etc... would look healthier on paper, but the diet you're on won't harm you more than someone eating red meat in every meal, that's for sure... ;)

Just pay attention to supplement with om-3's, minerals and vitamins (even though they're of course better absorbed when coming from food than tabs), and you should be alright.

I did something similar on a few occasions during the past, and didn't notice any change in my blood tests (I have some a few times a year). :)

Hmm.. i believe the low carb dieters in your first study were probably getting their fat from trans fat such as bacon and butter. But still a valid point. Maybe i should revamp it and eat normal but jsut up my cardio.

"Our next question was, 'Why do the low-carb mice have such an increase in atherosclerosis?'" says Foo. Searching for an explanation, she and her coauthors proceeded to measure the usual markers thought to contribute to vascular disease, including the animals' cholesterol and triglyceride levels, oxidative stress, insulin and glucose, as well as levels of some inflammatory cytokines.

"In each case, there was either no difference in measurements compared with the mice on the Western Diet [which contains the same amount of fat and cholesterol] or the numbers slightly favored the low-carb cohort," she adds. "None of these results explained why the animals' blood had more atherosclerotic blockages and looked so bad."

This was done in mice and was done over a twelve week period and imo has no worth as far as humans are concerned. There is obviously something else going on here and they hypothesize it may be due to EPC, but do not seem sure as to why they dropped and even if this is the reason why their arteries clogged. So was it the lack of carbs or the addition of someting else in their diet. I am guessing the latter. I would like to know what type of food they gave them.

Your diet shouldn't have any negative affect on your cholestrol values. Although, why do you want to diet with such a limited variety of food?
