i dont have money to call and get a consult from a lawyer but i have a question really important. if my wifes date of birth is messed up on our marriage certificate is that a legal marriage or no??? just wondering cause to get a divorce aint cheap in ny. well please ne info will be much appreciated

i dont know the answer. but it seems like its cheaper to stay married than it is to get divorced. society sucks. UGH best of luck

Yes its still legal.

Did you ever file taxes together? Did she take your last name? Did you ever tell people you were married? Do you live in the same home? You also just called her your wife in this post.

The marriage certificate is a meager document that leads to evidence of a legal union. It is not required, however, to be married in the eyes of a the law.


So, a mistake in the date of birth on a marriage certificate means nothing. Sorry, bro...

If you have any assets, you better know about being incorporated, and if you were married over 10 years, you are screwed. Get the best lawyer money can buy.

i have no assets i lost them all when i got my honorable discharge in sept. plus i live in the ghetto i cant afford a good lawyer i best just stay married and i if i ever get married again ill just do it in a nother state lol

If you have no assets then you don't need a lawyer. Look in your newspaper. You can get your divorce papers for like 50 bucks if you do it yourself. If you have children and agree on some custody arrangement then you're fine. She'll go to domestic relations and you'll pay child support. Unless you have majority physical custody.

...course she'll be entitled to half the computer you're typing on right now. I don't know who will get the rusted out Corolla with aftermarket exhaust though.

Go the cheap, quickie route like Ouch said... if you are broke, now is the best time. If you stay legally married and accumulate assets later... then you will be screwed and you will be seriously pissed.

It might be that low I don't know. It's just a filing fee really. Whatever the filing fee is in your area. What am I thinking? 25 dollars doesn't even buy you 10 dollars nowadays. But you owe that girl a divorce.
