I just got an unbelievable deal on a turbo TT quatro... it's got 110k miles on it though, I usually go for cars under 100k. It's in great condition though, how reliable are they?

i dont know about their reliability, but i have 2 friends with an audi. an a6 and an a4. the one with the a4 has gone through 2 of them, as she has had alot of problems with them. the a6 has been reliable, but when you get simple repairs done that should cost no more than 3-400$(like getting belts replaced) you end up spending over 1200$. the friend with the a6 just had this done, a 400$ repair job ended up costing 1800$

Oh geez, it's like servicing a Ferrari. Anyone with a TT care to chime in? The deal i'm getting is ridiculous, and the car has been carfaxed/inspected and is perfect... i don't know what i can expect to blow after 100k though, those engines look pretty tough to work on too.

Newer Audis are pretty good cars. I had an 84 Coupe GT, 87 4000 Quattro, 1991 200 Quattro, an my mom had a 87 5000 cs and two A6 wagons. A6s are a bitch to work on because you have to pull the nose so often.
They are otherwise easy to work on, and last a long time if cared for. Find a good indy mechanic.
The TT is built on the VW A4 Chassis, and is a good, nice looking car.
BTW, I swore off Audis for BMWs. :D

I highly recommend you pick up the Bentley manual just to get familiar with the vehicle.

I just sold my UrS4 a few years ago.
Audis are amazing cars, Quattro IMO is the best AWD System in the world. What year is your TT? Post some pics id love to see it!
I am in love with the new Audi TTRS thats coming out in 2010
0-60 in 4.6 secs!? Fucking faaast should be under 60 grand to i bet ya

I had one A3 1.8T, have one A3 1.9 tdi and one A4 2.0 tdi Van.

No problem at all.
Best european cars around.

Regards :D

Audi is a great car...the TT however is NOT.

My father owned one that he purchsed brand new. Within the first two months it was in the shop. Over the next two years it was in the shop more than we drove it. I don't care how great the deal is for a TT I honestly would never own one after seeing it first hand how horribly that particular car was built...ESPECIALLY one over 100K miles.

I personally owned a 2006 Audi A4 Quatro. It was SOLID in regards to how it ran and drove and I had few problems with it...well until I was hit by a tractor trailer and totaled it. My only problem was having a water pump go bad however and that was over $2k in repair work...thank God I bought the extended warranty.

everyone i know who has the TT reports its in the shop all the time.

I used to have an Audi S4. It had it's normal wear and tear costs and it also had one major repair that cost me over 1000 dollars. Besides that, no problems. If anything, you should look into getting a beamer or mercedes. I have a 07 slk 350 and it's been good to me so far. I've also had a beamer in the past that hardly gave me any trouble.

have had 1 TT. got 4 or 5 friends that have got new shape TT's currently one is the new RS model and two have the S and the rest have the older shape ones with two of the guys working as Technicians for Audi down the road from me.

my friend Ryan has one thats done 100k miles and its absolutely fine. the others ahve done probably 80-90k.

servicing costs are quite reasonable but it is over here in the UK. german engines are durable but the TT's do have problems in comparison. it only seemed to be the turbo'd models that had issues rather than the normally aspirated model they did. major problems were the electrics with the Xenons going. one of my friends light units went and it was £800gbp to get it fixed. but saying that after all, it didnt have any other problems.

i'd still have a german car (even a tt) over most other cars.

Audi/VW's are known for their electrical problems... Coil packs regularly going, frying ECU's, sensors failing, regular check engine lights (malfunction indicator lamp, depending on wwhat you call it), MAF (mass air flow sensors) dying, window regulators, etc...

Mechanically they are sound... Pretty stout engines and transmissions.

Audi/VW is odd about their electrical problems though... They constantly come out with revisions for parts, yet they still have the same problems. For instance they are up to revision "N" on a particular part... being that A was first, then B, C, D, etc., you get the point.

All in all not bad cars, but if something goes wrong, they are very costly to fix. Ie. Engine/Transmission problems will net you a huge bill.

On a side note I currently drive a newer Audi S4, and would gladly pick up a new S5... I happen to really like the new styling.

You may want to pick up a VAG-com (if you have a laptop, you just buy the software and connector)... this way if the check engine light pops on, you can check it out to find out it is a minor thing before taking it to an Audi dealer and paying $100-$150/hr just to diagnose a $3 problem.

Good luck...

Things to keep in mind:

Has the timing belt service been done? This is $700. If it hasn't, factor that into the cost of the car and get it done immediately. Do the water pump and stuff while you are in there.

Is this car chipped or anything? The K03 turbos tend to die. You have to pull the engine to replace them. This is about 1200 labor. new turbos can be a couple grand, rebuilds to your k03s are a few hundred.

TT audis can get out of control maintenance wise pretty quick. I LOVE the b5 style s4...but i cant justify the maintenance disaster i know it would end up being....and unfortunately the a4s are dogs.
