So, first of all, if you think this is BS or a waste of time, please move on to the next thread.

Okay...

I see ya'll saying "I eat a 7oz steak, which equals 50g of protein" and that kind of thing...

So, how exactly do you wrap your mind around starting a phrase in imperial and ending up in metric?

Since I was a kid, I've always known that 1/4 of your meat or chicken is protein, so I just say "I eat a 200g steak, which equals 50g of protein". Hey, it's in the same unit. :headbang:

So, how did this came to be? If you're gonna reply with "it's always been like this" or "it's obvious that meat is in oz and macros are in g", please don't waste your time. I'm actually looking for the historical reasons or what not. Anything with a little logic helps.

Also, why 1cc instead of 1ml, like everyone else?

You got me on that.
I can tell you how many grams of protein I eat a day and how many mls of water I drink, but you get to anabolics I can tell you I took . 2 cc's sub -q yesterday, or 40 mg of test enanthate for HRT. :)

You guys think too much.

over here its all sold by the pound....

so that's what we use when pertaining to "weight"

but we can use either way if you just do the math
in your head...454 grams is a pound....roughly 100grams
of protein...

LOL, its just how its sold here....so we use it.

Scientific/medical (some exceptions) measurements are all done in metric units every where in the USA.

Everything else uses imperial units.

Hence steak (food not science) weight 7oz has 50 grams protein (scientific nutritional data)

You buy meat by the pound but the nutrition label is in metric.

I think mixing the two system has an advantage

Here is an explanation between cc and ml, basically personal preference:

The Compounder - CC vs ML: What's the difference?

I'm impressed. I believe I've asked these things before and most responses were "just because" or similar...

Now a new question arises: why?

Why what?

Go ask John Wilkins (John Wilkins, (1614-1672) invented the system part of the decimal metric system when he published a book with a plan for a 'universal measure' in 1668)

and

British Weights and Measures Act of 1824 for the imperial system

perhaps because merica uses ounces as food weights but ounces are the smallest whole units used in that area in our system.
so its simpler to use grams as in "8 grams" per serving instead of ".2857 ounces" of x.
kinda how english evolved as the main language of science and technology. every scientist uses english no matter where they live.
its just how it is.

I will never understand OCD

I think maybe its just that you have an easier way of doing it, and are perplexed why people are making it so difficult?

Why insist on this if the whole world uses metric for everything.

I think its convenient using the two systems together, it would be very expensive and pretty pointless for the USA to switch completely to metric.

Same goes for USA using 110 volts and most of the world using 220 volts. It would be insanely expensive, and pointless for either side to convert.

What sounds better a 300lbs monster bodybuilder or a 136kg bodybuilder?

What if I told you that here we have both and you can drive like 100km from a 110v city to a 220v one and the next city be 110 again? Don't even get me started on that crap, it's completely fucked up.

Hmmmm... Good question. To me, maybe 136kg because I know exactly how 1kg feels in the hand when I pick it up, or 10, 20. Of course, I'm familiar with pounds too, but ask anyone in most countries and they'll know 136kg is very heavy.

Now, what's that odd thing they do in the UK? Stone, right? Like, WTF...

When I was in elementary school in the 70's, there was a push to convert to the metric system, but it failed. Probably too complicated with water freezing @ 0C and boiling at 100C, and water weighing 1g/cc or 1mt/m^3. Who can remember that:D

Much easier to remember 32F and 212F and 62.4lb/ft^3 and 4 pecks in a bushel and . . .

Had you not posted this I never would have thought about any of this. But good question. Thats why I like friends who think differently than me because they point out things I cannot see.

I do remember being young and in elementary school and they made it sound like the pressure was on for the metric system and we better get used to it. Now, its not even a debate.

Keeping the same unit of measure makes sense though.

Yea, WHY, do you waste your time on such trivial things?

I never weigh food but those of you who do, do you weigh after cooking?
