i was reading lyle mcdonalds posts on his board and i saw a thread that eating protein too frequently can be a bad thing? i do not have his protein book, but from what i understood in the thread you muscle might not be as sensitive to amino acids if you eat too frequently?

what do some of you guys think of this?

recently i have been mixing 50g of protien in a gallon jug of water and carrying it around with me all day. when im driving i sip it, when im sitting around the house i sip it, and at work. i thought it would be a good idea but maybe not?

Overconsumption of protein is a bad thing. Too much protein intake can lead to kidney problems. IMO, 2 grams per pound is the highest anyone should go. My uncle who's a doctor, has seen people come to the hospital he works at in ER because they consumed too much protein and fucked up their kidneys.

This hasn't been demonstrated for the healthy individual. Bodybuilders frequently consume 300-500g of protein per day for months - even years, yet there is no scientific evidence that this high protein intake causes kidney problems. Rather, animals with high protein intakes for more than half their lifetime showed no kidney damage. High protein intake may be hazardous for anyone with abnormal kidney function or kidney disease. For the disease-free individual, the most serious concern with high protein intake is dehydration because it takes a lot of water to metabolize protein. This is avoided by drinking 8 or more 8 oz. glasses of water a day.

If that's the case then why has my uncle who's a doctor witnessed people come into ER, specifically bbers who have eaten too much protein, that have had kidney failure? Please explain that one to me. Your kidneys can only process so much protein at a time. Prolonged overconsumption of protein is not healthy period. Also, 300-500 grams of protein is fine because it doesn't exceed 2 grams per pound too much. The guys that consume 300-500 grams of protein tend carry around a lot more lean muscle mass. Hell, even I consume 300+grams of protein per day.

well...

think about it. with increase water retention from aas you get hypertension which is highly damaging to the delicate tubules of the kidneys. some aas like tren if used for too long also directly affect the kidneys. even natural bb'rs that get too heavy for thier frames are prone to high bp. i'm not questioning your uncles credability but i've worked in an er and an icu for 21 years and i have never run across a patient with kidney damage from too much protein.

So these bbers come into the ER with kidney failure and your uncle diagnoses all of them with overconsumption of protein. I guess none of them where using any other supplements or steroids?

All I know is lots of guys on the board get blood work, and lots of guys eat lost of protein and you NEVER hear any first hand experiences of people saying they need to lower their protein cause their blood work came back bad.

Gee, who am I going to believe, my uncle who's a professional medical specialist who's spent many years in med school and has seen countless patients who've had many health problems or you? Like I said, your entitled to your own opinion and I'm entitled to mine. Let's just leave it that way. Agree to disagree. ;)

Were they tested to see what was in their systems at the time, aas, supps, etc. Not doubting his expertise but its very easy to treat the symptom, get the patient back to stability and forget about finding out why it happened unless its a chronic condition.

Keep in mind that just because a doctor is a specialist doesn't mean they know everything. Would I go to my endo about my sore elbow, probably not because they wouldn't have a clue how to treat or diagnose tendon issues.

"The body is unable to store excess protein. Protein is digested into amino acids which enter the bloodstream. The body maintains a constant concentration of amino acids. Excess amino acids are converted to other usable molecules by the liver in a process called deamination. Deamination converts nitrogen from the amino acid into ammonia which is converted by the liver into urea in the urea cycle. Excretion of urea is performed by the kidneys. These organs can normally cope with any extra workload but if kidney disease occurs, a decrease in protein will often be prescribed.[13][citation needed]

Many researchers think excessive intake of protein forces increased calcium excretion. If there is to be excessive intake of protein, it is thought that a regular intake of calcium would be able to stabilize, or even increase the uptake of calcium by the small intestine, which would be more beneficial in older women."

Damn where do you live? Must be a hell of a big city, full of bodybuilders. :)

Wasnt the question too frequently?? i dont think 50g mixed with a gallon of water sipped throughout the day constitutes overconsumption..

LOL. I didn't mean it like that. When I said many patients, I meant people in general.

2 grams per pound of bodyweight may be a top end for muscle building without aas but there is no reason that you can't use more as fuel to run your body. mmm calories.

My aunt's third cousin Josephine once told me that a ketogenic diet allowed her to have more orgasms during gang bangs.

"Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious."

Seriously! Hearsay has got to be the least convincing form of evidence.

How so? Your body wouldn't be able to process that much protein anyways without the use of aas. You would be pissing it out. Also, "fuel to run your body" comes from carbs unless your in keto in which your body uses fat for that, not protein. Why do you think guys on keto feel like shit and lethargic all the time? Yes they do get fibrous carbs from veggies but it isn't much.
