I think the only reason it works is because it takes guys who have never pushed it to failure before to do that every time they hit the iron. there is a better method though. there is no substitute for owning a big squat, dead, powerclean, bench press, push press etc. circuit training can't achieve this. with proper coaching, big lifts can be achieved and injuries can be avoided. there is one reason and one reason only to lift weights for athletics, to get stronger and more explosive. high intensity training builds hypertrophy not strength. sure, you might get stronger initially if you've never lifted weights before, but you're never gonna be truly powerfull.
