I think most people keep thinking that waxy maize is some sort of uber carb that somehow does magic things to the body. It's a carb. Some of you like more beef in your diet, while others like fish. Why? You might digest it better, taste better, whatever... if you're getting 500g of protein a day, you're gonna grow.
If I eat a chipotle burrito with double barbacoa, fajita peppers, black beans, white rice, and the bread wrap pre-workout I get a wicked pump.
If I go across the street to the sushi buffet post workout, I feel completely replenished.
The same things would happen if you replaced either meal with similar macros.
In the end, I think the expectations of waxy are the fault of advertisors. Nobody expects dextrose or maltodextrin to be life changing... but then again, how many advertisements have you seen for them? Waxy maize does exactly what it's supposed to do... which isn't what people WANT it to.
