I'm 42, and been cycling off and on for about 6 years. I've been just EXHAUSTED lately, and only thing the doc found was low test levels(Just under 200 total). It's been over 6 months since my last cycle: I did HCG near the end and then Clomid/Nolva for about a month like always. ANYHOW, my doc will prob. prescribe test for me (he's taking forever to call me back though), but I'm beginning to wonder if it would just be easier and a lot cheaper to do it myself. Any thoughts?

Sometimes I think its easier and much cheaper to do it yourself. I just got some bloodwork done and I got charged $200 and it was standard. I have a deductable so I had to pay. You can go to labdirect.com (i think) and pay $50....If you can find a good knowledgable doc with a good philosophy then its fine.

What do most people pay for a year of doc supervised TRT? Including blood work and office visits and vials of Upjohn etc.

I would guess in the thousands? I would not mind but you need to find a good doc which can be hard in certain parts of the country. If insurance pays, then who cares.....One could self medicate for more like hundreds?

I did my own HRT for a while. When it actually helped with the problems I was looking to fix, I felt like I had a good shot at getting my Doc to get me on it.

I will say it was cheaper for me when I did DIY, it's easier for me now that it's legit. I do, however, have to restrict my dose to the actual prescribed dose as my refills are monitored and I can only get them when my prescribed dose would have used up the amount I got, so I can't "lean" on it too hard.

But, it's much less hassle for me to be able to run down to Walgreen's every few months than it is to do it any other way, plus my Doc does bloodwork on a regular basis to monitor everything.

I pay $90 for 10cc compounded test cyp 200mg . Prescribed at 400mg/week and get 6 bottles at each visit. $100 for the office visit.

Over on the other thread...
"Watson test cyp...200mg/ml 10mL...$59.74 at Costco".
If I can do that with a Dr. visit every 6 months or so, that's pretty doable.

I was on HRT. My T levels are shot. I ran to many cycles at a young age and I think that probably screwed it up, who knows. Anyways I started HRT and did that for awhile, then I wanted to actually run a cycle and didn't want to deal with the blood work and stuff from the doctors office, so I told the doctor I dropped off of HRT. He told me anytime I wanted back on to let him know. I just seen him today. I weighed in at 276 and he wants me down to 250ish, lmao!! He told me I look great, but I'm to phrigg'n big and he would like to see me down 25 lbs. I can probably drop some dieting down, but there's no way I can maintain that. I was laughing at my doctor. He told me I don't play pro ball so I don't need to be a linebacker, LMAO!! He's a good guy. A little skinny dude, but still a good guy.

When you went to the doc and told him you were doing your own HRT, what was his reaction? Did he make you go off for a while so he could get baseline bloodwork again? Was it your family practice doc or did you select a different one to "break the news"?

Once I knew for sure HRT was the answer for me, and I mean REAL HRT (moody, disturbed sleep patterns, lethargy, low sex drive) I stopped the DIY and let my blood levels go to where they would have been on they're own.

I went to a different doctor, one that I knew had done HRT for someone I worked with. Now, he was more than an empty lab coat and did bloodwork and continues to do so as well as limiting my refills. He is by no means someone that will just write out a script so I can cycle off of him.

But I do get HRT (Test C from the pharmacy) and I do feel better, and that's all I was asking for.

Terry, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

I'm only 26, but did a lot of stupid stuff in my younger days and think I probably jacked myself up. I have been off everything for about 7 months, and also used some HCG (which did help temporairly), but still feel like my T levels are quite a bit lower than they should be.

I'm going to my doc to get some blood work done and see where my levels are at, I'm pretty curious honestly.

For me, if I could get it legally, its a no brainer. What does a lawyer charge these days if you get caught?

My doctor has me come in every 6 months to check my blood levels (testosterone and psa). My insurance covers everything except my co-pay.

So you may have 2 office visits a year + labs (cheap) and then your script costs

You can go thru an Antiaging Clinic, which is legal in some states after the Big antiaging clinic raid a few years back with signature pharmacy. Most of those HRT are in FL. The laws are different by each state using them. You would be able to get probably little higher dosages prescribed thru them than if you went to a your own doctor. Most Insurance really doesn't covert the HRT Clinic though and you still need to pay for lab work, which is a few hundred ect., 200mg/10ml Test from them is between $75-100 vial. This would be most likely the way to go if you did not have insurance.

If your going to use just Test at 200-250mg week, HRT thru and HRT Clinic is about $1,000.

Now with insurance such as myself, my Test is $3 a month, blood work free and doctors appointments $10. I go to the doctors every 4 months. That's for Watson Test Eth,Testim Gel or compounded oral lozenges.

So my total is less than $70 a year for HRT.

Is that without insurance?

Very true, but not all clinics are legit. Check on their pharmacy numbers and see if they are registered. Any legit company has to get a doctor's checkup and proper bloodwork. I know one company in Florida that is legit and been operating many years. The problem is that their prices have doubled over the years.

Ya I'm aware of this. Alot of those unlegit companies lied to people and they went down in that whole signature pharmacy scandal. Where would one get and check their pharmacy numbers.

Thanks everyone for weighing in. I'll see what my doc suggests and see what Blue Cross will cover, and if it's too expensive I'll do it myself. Also, the wife wants to go for a kid at the end of the year. Will I have to come off for a few months?

If you choose to use a Dr instead of DIY do not use the yellow pages use a referral, because most doc's are lagging behind in terms of knowledge in this area of medicine.
