Manta Ray Squats

Anyone ever use the manta ray for squats?

Most think it's a "sissy tool" but it's actually pretty brutal - it pitches the weight way forward like an extreme high bar squat... really hammers the entire back hard (especially the lower back), and also the quads.

Normal back squats I feel a lot more in my hamstrings and glutes.

there is also one especially for front squats. never tried one but i here good stories about them.

I like the manta ray

For back squats, I have to use the Manta Ray- my rotator cuffs are so messed up that it hurts bad to hold any appreciable weight on my shoulders with my arms tweaked backward to hold the bar, but the Manta Ray takes a lot of the load off my shoulders by keeping the bar more firmly on my traps.

I had one when I used to squat in my home gym; now I go to a gym where they have one and admit I'm embarrassed to use it- so I've just been doing front squats. But fvck-it, I'm gonna start doing back squats w/ Manta Ray again...

I have one of these and I used to be embarrassed to use it. But with the pain this thing relieves I don't even care anymore. I can actually squat heavy with my mind focused on my legs, instead of worrying about 400 lbs resting uncomfortably on my back.

I guess I got used to putting the bar right below my traps.

I tried the manta ray but the weight can move and slide around...so I didn't like it.

That was my experience. The think I would like to use is the hatfield squat bar. That looks really good to me.

about a month ago I was about to squat and it was lying in the floor of the squat rack and i put it on and damn it was the most uncomfortable squat ever, i was straight up and down and the bar has zero movement on your back.. ouch i hated it, I threw it half away across the gym.

HUH?

1/2 WAY ACROSS THE GYM? ........SMALL GYM HUH?

I'm affraid to admitt that I used to use one for front squats, in fear that TP will call me a sissy for using it.;) Hey, atleast i'd grunt REALLY loud on each rep.

We have one of those too - a "safety squat bar", right?

Those are a bitch too. They pitch the weight even further forward. You really have to keep your torso upright with that or you're going to get stapled.

Do you know what its called? I always have issues with front squats.. My shoulders get burnt out..

Sting Ray (see attached). A lot of people don't like them though.

I'm actually producing a front squat / zercher squat combination harness now if anyone is interested. We've made a few and sold them, and are getting great reviews. They are VERY heavy duty, somewhat similar to the old Atomic Front Squat harnesses. PM me for more information.

This is the webpage for it but I don't have any pics or video of it yet.. I'll get some soon.

my dad had one of these when we had our old gym. saw him do 900lb with it.

If anyone is wondering -

the guy wearing a pink tank-top in the first pic (using the Manta Ray)..

yah that's Edge250.

ok yah your dad is stronger than my dad

probably stronger than 6 or 7 of my dads actually

I have a manta ray and use it regularly. I also have a safety squat bar and an old Power Atomic front squat harness. I have a love/hate relationship with all of them. The reason I use them is because they take the load off my already beat up shoulders. And my shoulder flexibility sucks enough that I have a hard time getting under an 8' squat bar.
