Ok as I kinda mentioned in another thread I posted in, my husband is a skinny guy. He has tried many different things to gain weight and none of them help.

He's almost 6 foot tall and about 155-160 lbs. He's sitting at around 7% BF, and he can't put weight on to save his life, lol.

I always joke and say he could eat a whole cow and loose a pound.

So what do you guys recommend? Keep in mind we are both pretty much noobs to all the supplements an stuff. I'm not totally opposed to him "jucing" but only as a last resort kind of thing.

We have a full weight bench with 400lbs of free weights, as well at a total gym, an ab lounger and a ball, plus all my yoga DVD's. He also does tons of outside work, and as soon as we move ( in a few weeks), we will be closer to a real gym, lol.

(You can't find a gym, in the middle of the boonies, lol)

check out the "growth principles for beginners" in the articles section

Need more calories.
Food is the key.

I already checked out the principals already, and he does all of that now, c'ept for the juice.

As for the calories and more food, lol; he eats enought for me and 4 of my girlfriends now.

He's on probably a 7k calorie diet, with 2 whey protien shakes a day and creatine, and amino fuel. One of the girls I work with is an amature class fitness model, and her hubby is a amature BB. They put him on the diet he's on, and they are even baffeled that he doesn't gain weight. Oh, he also eats about a dozen eggs a day, and at least a jar if not a 1/2 a jar of peanut butter.

He just has a metobolism that every woman in the world wants, lol.

Luke (hubby) jokes that if he has to eat any more, it will be his full time job.

I didn't know if you guys had any ideas, or diets that would stick to his ribs, so to speak. And he works out every other day already. He didn't know if working out more would help or hurt.

the answer is simple: he's got the aids.

You don't have to be such a jackass about it.

I was asking for honest true help, and you say something like that to me?

That was very out of line. The only STD's we have ever gotten is children. So I know aids isn't the culpret.

I came here to get help, what better place to do it? I mean I wouldn't go to a Chevy dealership to ask about specs on a new BMW 325i. I would go the the BMW dealership, or Car and Driver ;) , so that's why I came here, to ask advice from people that know.

If you aren't willing to help a noob by showing them the ropes, just tell me that then. It wouldn't be nearly as rude or catty.

He needs to slow his metabolism down. You do that by eating 3 large(belly buster) meals /day. Have a high fat snack between meals. Other things to consider: don't walk when you can ride, don't stand when you can sit, don't sit when you can lay down. This advise was given to me by one of the biggest son-of-a-bitches I've ever met. It works.

Only 3 days a week in the gym working the basics. Squat, bench press, deadlift, military press, barbell row, and barbell curls. I put my skinny assed nephew on this type of program and he gained 20lbs in about 4months. He got all skinny again so we decided to go thru this again. This was all done drug free too.

the thing is, you are asking a question that has been asked/answered too many times to list. the article lists, from start to finish, exactly what anyone would need to do to stimulate basic growth. if your husband does this already and cannot grow then there is something wrong with him (disease, meth addiction, etc.)

so, if you really want to know what will make him grow, use the search function and re-read the article i pointed you to.

otherwise, i smell PORK.

Thanks Paul.

Julia has him on eating like 7 times a day, lol. Maybe we do need to slow his ass down a little, lol.

Should he stop working out for a month or so to gain a few pounds, then work on getting that extra weight muscled out?

Well, I can post a pic of him if you need me to, if that will help. Basically I think Paul actually helped with what he said. Luke's metobolism is WAY too high. He is eating around 6-8 meals a day. We need to slow him down.

And you don't "smell pork" here. We are Jewish, that's unclean for us! ;) It's on the list of big no-no's.

?

Why isnt he on here asking? I dont believe that he is on 7000 KCs and is not gaining weight. What brought you to this site? This is a professional BBing site. this is a place to go when you are into competing and are learning to gain an extra pound or two to top off your contest physique. Most of us are not in the medical/nutritional field. Does your husband go to a doctor? Had a blood test lately? Parasite maybe? Is he fat at a low weight? Shredded at a low weightl? How do you intend to slow your husband down? That doesnt make sense to me at all. IF he eats more he will just get fatter (%). One thing is for sure, quitting lifting weights is not the answer.

I agree with Phil - if he is really eating 7k calories a day and not gaining weight then he needs to get some lab work done.

He should definitely rule out any metabolic abnormalities like hyperthyroidism and make sure he does not have a parasitic organism eating thousands of calories a day (not likely, even the fattest tapeworm can't eat that much).

Anyway, I would start at the doctor's office because someting is not right in this picture.

Well he's at work right now, lol. So that's why I'm here, and I thought maybe I could find a few posts or articles on here that might work for me too. I just wanna tone up slightly, and loose a few inches around the tum-tum area.

That and he hates, forum boards, lol.

He had his yearly checkup in Nov of last year (2 months ago), and everything came back perfect.

You guys can't believe that he eats that much in one day and still doen't gain any weight? Hell, he gets between 4,500 and 5,000 calories each day from the peanut butter alone. Plus about 500 from the whey shakes and the rest is from his actual food.

Sure he does eat alot of "healthy" food which are low in calories, but he alos eats stuff like doughnuts, and and twinkies, lol.

what does he do for a living? does he do some sort of manual labor (construction, ect...)? he may eat a lot compared to you and your girlfriends...but i seriously doubt 7000 kcals a day...unless its all fast food, doughnuts and peanut butter.

another thing to consider would be how long has he been eating to gain weight? if hes been doing it for a month, i doubt you would see any real increase in muscle, especially being natural. something i learned from Big A (the owner of this site) is that consistency is the biggest key to success.

??

5 k cals on JUST pb??? Jesus. There is a concept that these guys are trying to tell you -- we are all human organisms, you feed it and subsequently the body will respond. Now obviously there are factors that can sway the pendulum diff ways. Have him eat 4 chx breats a day, 1lb of red meat, 2-3 potatoes, two cans of tuna, several helpings of veggies, 4-8 slices of whole wheat bread, several servings of rice, and also the protein shakes. If he eats this much every day and still does not gain HE DOES have a medical problem.

Forget about hormones for right now. HE needs to figure out what is going on with his body first.

Paranoid

Ok, I'm going to sound like a paranoid freak here but bear with me. It sounds to me, and I admit I could be wrong, that this person is trying to persuade someone here to advocate to her the use of steroids. This person seems to have set the ground work in place via listing ultra high caloric intake and regular lifting, that could lead someone to suggesting that a next step be steroid supplementation. This could be someone who is writing an article or concocting a news story for another well respected broadcast company like MTV. If I weren't so lazy I would check other forums to see if the same questions have been posted elsewhere.

Anyway just my 2 cents. If I am incorrect great!

P.S. I don't post much but Phil I really enjoy your posts!

I think he needs to write down EVERYTHING he eats for a week then figure out his calories. You say he eats 1/2 to 1 jar of pnt butter a day then you say 4,500 to 5,000 cals are from pnt butter. Well a 1/2 to 1 jars a day is a HUGE diff. Could be up to 3500 cals more or less.

Like I say have him weigh himself today write down EVERYTHING he eats for a week and figure out exactly how many cals, fat grams, prot grams and carb grams he ate then weigh himself again. If he hasn't gained a pound and he REALLY did eat 49,000 cals then yea there IS something wrong with him.

Just like fat people don't think they eat as many cals as they do, skinny people do not eat as MUCH as they think they do.

bingo. it's either that or LE.

well, i will defend this fella

i was working in lawn care for about 5 years or so,, and during that time, i would eat over 6000 cals a day, and during that time, i maybe gained 4 lbs.. seriously.. i would eat all morining... eat all day,,, and go home, sit on the couch and eat all nite... i also WALKED 8 MILES OR SO A DAY..

once i stopped mowing. i gained 40 pounds like in 4 months... seriously.. that was natural too.. BF went up, but i put on muscle like i never had.. sittin around.. happy, rich... (not now) and full all day!!!

tell him to log everything he eats.. i would imagine its high in cals. but maybe not 8k..

People who are hard gainers need to focus on heavy compound movements in the gym. A M-W-F training split is good with no more than 1hr per session. You need to get in there and hit it hard and then eat and rest. He's gonna need to be consistent even when he thinks it's not going to work. He also needs to be persistent, it's going to take some time. Many people in his position think they need to train every day for 3hrs at a time but that's the worst thing to do. There is a guy named Stuart McRoberts that wrote a book called Brawn and I think he has a magazine called Hard Gainer. The type of workout outline by him is what I used to put some meat on my nephew.
