Why do competitors gate keep Steroids?

I'm sorry if this may sound radical or anti-scientific, far from that intention, but studies are not worth much when it comes to bodybuilding because no university teaches the ins and outs of preparing for a bodybuilding show because this is not a sporting process where peak physical performance is sought, but an art where a specific look is sought. In addition, the use of PEDs is against the ethical rules governing sports and official academies of study.

How do you get a black belt in karate? You go to a teaching center called a gym, you don't go to a damn university.

And if we talk about strength sports such as powerlifting, strongman or weightlifting, it is exactly the same.
You must not be familiar with Dr. Guillermo Escalante's work.

Bodybuilders go to universities too. They allow you to. And you get to study what you are interested in. It's not unethical to study the use of drugs, it's not even unethical to administer them with ethical approval, and many studies have looked at testosterone at doses of up to 600 mg weekly after administration for changes in muscle size, body composition, and strength.

You know that most bodybuilders are not using just tests, and such small doses, so what application do these studies have to the real world?

Are they using slin, tren, clen and diuretics like most pro athletes?

Have they used different approaches to diet and training, i.e., have they replicated what bodybuilders have been doing for decades? Impossible because they don't have the time, resources or number of subjects to test them.

Have the scientists said what is the best training method, some universal formula? Then, what the hell is the use of their studies?

Do they know how poses are judged in bodybuilding?

Bodybuilding: high volume? Low volume? 5x5 or 4x8? O RIR or 2 RIR? Full Rom or partials? 1 Second or 3 second eccentric? Hit the muscle 1x or 3x/week? Barbell bench press or DB's for chest? Bodybuilding has so much to breakdown and individuality its fascinating.

There have been thousands of studies on these variables, but if you look at the routines, they have hardly changed in the last 20 years. So everyone is going to experiment with the different options and do their own research to find out what works best for them.

Ohh, I think we're misunderstanding each other.

I have not dismissed the contribution of some scientific studies, what I have stated is that no university is going to show you how to be a better bodybuilder. Nor a successful trainer.

A while back I read a great study by Scott on peak week. I also read a study from Australia on how to prepare naturally, the guy, I think also a competitor, did some surveys with the athletes on what kind of diets they used, etc....

Both studies were interesting but overall I didn't learn anything that would change the way I do things.

From one such study.

The subject employed a high-volume, high-frequency, whole-body training program throughout the study period.

Most athletes, natural or not, will tell you that this type of program sucks. Natty, high-frequency, high-volume... Do you really need a study to know that it's unsustainable and will destroy muscle?

I doubt that anybody here disputes that. Having read what you actually wrote previously, it would seem that you are changing your stance. That's good, education and evolution are good things that I hope to be able to, occasionally, inspire, even if it's in a tactless and perhaps even inflammatory tone. I am only verbally abusive 'cause I care.
