An average kid weighs between 6-8 pounds at birth. My youngest son was born 40 days early and was 4lbs 12oz (at birth). Six weeks later they usually gain at least a pound of body weight if being fed normally. So in this case their kid died weighing less than a premature baby after living for 6 weeks!!!

That has nothing to do with being a vegan, that means the kid wasn't being fed. PERIOD!!!

I have three kids so I've had those that eat a ton and those that hardly eat after they are born, and NONE of them ever lost a single ounce of weight.

In California murder carries a mandatory life sentence no matter what your priors are. They were convicted of murder by a jury, that means a life sentence. It fits the crime.

I get the feeling that the parents should have probably had a little more common sense, but as a ovo-lacto vegetarian of 10 years, I think their sentence is insane.

Do they really think the mother loves animals so much that she'd starve her own child to death? I mean, really? If a cow was gonna trample her child and she held a gun, do these people think she wouldn't empty the gun just to save her child? I guarantee that cow would be burger in no time.

I'd bet my soul that this all boils down to a hotshot prosecutor and a whole lot of hate mongering on the part of the judge, jury and (essentially) executioner. Has anyone seen the diets prisoners are served? I have and it ain't pretty. These parents will die in jail if they remain vegans. They will literally have nothing to eat.

These are people who for whatever the reason choose to starve their child, until the child died.

The jury made the right decision in my opinion, and the judge followed the law.

You argue on both sides, but oh well. If they remain vegans in jail that is their own decision. They can choose life or death. They should have fed their baby, fuck their beliefs. Thats a life. A poor baby that needed nutrition to live. They got what they deserved,


they chose their belief over their babies life... now lets see if they choose their beliefs over their own!

i think you have to look past the point of the parents being vegan. it comes down to the child not recieving enough nourishment to sustain life despite what type of nutritional protocol was being followed. so vegan or not they starved there baby to death, did they knowingly do it probably not but when a 6 week old infant weighs but 3lbs that is just gross negligence and no one but the parents are to blame. that infant depended on its parents to thrive and they failed, ignorance is not an excuse for murder.

Was there an intent for murder? I do not see the intent. A baby can not eat meat at 6 weeks old anyway. They did not poison this child, they were just neglective. They fed him formula and apple juice.These people need counseling, not life in prison. I know many disagree, but I do not want to live in a society where if one of my clients who listen to my every word at contest time comes up dead. I would do life in prison because of my advice??????????? The guys that die from dieuretics, do their trainers need to go to trial for murder? Where does this end?

phil i see your point but your clients are adults and can makes decisions for themselves, they are adults and are responsible for there own actions. that baby didnt have a choice, it starved to death. maybe there is more to the story but i think if it was getting enough formula and juice to begin with it would not have died. i think there is more to this than what the baby was fed. again i believe about 1/2 of what the media reports, they say vegan and ran with it, i think there is way more to it. the kid starved to death, i dont think starving to death happens on accident

There's plenty of options for vegans if they so desire. This was done out of mental illness. Breast milk is really all babies need for the first 6 months, though most doctors say to integrate food earlier. if a mother is opposed to breast feeding based on being a vegan, she is mentally unstable.

So sad this baby had to suffer in this way.

the child was dying right before their eyes.. they surely knew that the loss of bodyweight was dangerous.. but, their "convictions" were so high they starved the child.. and for them to say that they did not know their was a issue until hours before the child died may be true.. but, what is the intelligence of a person (mother or father) that does not know that losing half the childs bodyweight in a short amount of time and not seeking help is neglect at the least..
mistakes happen.. a mistake in a instant is one thing.. but, to let this "mistake" go on for quite a while shows neglect.. and no accident..and i am not so sure of the parents mental "stability"...
maybe not a life sentence.. but, when ya add up all the laws that they are accused of breaking in regards to child endangerment, either way they will be there until they are very old and grey..

IMHO, these are the really stupid people, especially if it is a hot day. I would not even want to leave my dog in the car (I think you can get arrrested for leaving kid unattended here in CA- and if the kid dies... you are in TROUBLE, but not life).
