competitors with family

What do guys do (if at all) to make the 16 week prep less traumatic on your family life..thus still spending quality time with wife and kids??
I'm thinking this will be a good thread....and helpful for all...unless there's nothing to do..hahah

Phats

Great idea for a thread. This is the first time for me, so it's still a work in progress. As much as I can, I try not to let my personal decision to suffer affect my wife and kid. During my prep we've went on vacation, and everything other than my eating habits have been pretty much the same for them. I've tried to make sure that I eat dinner with them every night, just as I always would, even though what I'm having doesn't look nearly as good as what they're having. :D

As far as training and the time that takes. That's probably the toughest one. I'm currently doing about 2.5 hours of carido (fat ass) so that could have really taken some time away from them. My gym isn't open until 5 AM, so I bought a bike for my basement. I get up early and ride it for a bit before the gym opens, do my work at the gym and get home before their up, train or do more cardio at lunch. This usually is sufficient to not take away from my time with them after work.

It does take some getting used to I have to admit, and I'm sure at times I haven't been the most pleasant, but I'm lucky in that my wife's support for me is unwaivering...

Best of luck to you on your prep!

The best advise I can give, since I experienced both sides now, is don't be an asshole, ever!..even if small things get on your nerves..go out and do cardio, or help a bit more around the house to keep things as normal as possible....If you don't act like its the most important thing in the world, you should be ok.

Some people act like jerks , and they don't have to....Remember, your not doing anyone a favor by competing, its important to you yes, but don't let it create wars at home:)

I work alot, and have a big family and competed, and didnt act bitchy and didnt neglect anyone, or anything that needed to be done...just my advise:)

Let us know how it goes....good luck!

Bro.. competing is a somewhat a selfish event... In order to do it right you have to stick to you diet and plan, training and cardio.. Personally I dont budge and my wife knows it.

I have done 15 shows in 8 years no breaks. .I have put my wife through each prep of mine.. and my 3 year old daughter is going through my 5th prep for the biggest show of the year. Now we have a 6 month son.

My wife is an awesome trooper.. She understands the whole process and pretty much diets along with me.. I do my cardio in the early morning and train before coming home. I prep my meals later in the day..

I try to go way out of my way to spend as much quality time as i can with them. I want my wife to continue to support me ... not hate the sport..

Trust me.... I know of some stories of guys damn near torturing their spouses to the point where one of them was ready to move..

You cant let your prep interfere with the family in a negetive way... Bodybuilding is supposed to be about building your character too ... I think i have grown to be more considerate with each show i compete in.. You really have to consider other peoples feelings as well..

My first show was the hardest to keep my cool. But each time I have learned to control my emotions better. The biggest thing I've learned is the longer the diet the easier it is to keep things normal. Meaning I can going longer not doing much cardio for most of the prep, leaving more time for other things in life. Plus I know I look alot better on a long diet. ;) My wife diets with me every time so I have it made.

date body builders .... they always understand hehe actually.. when i try to slack on my am cardio i get a nice swift kick in the ass to get moving from the guy im dating lol its very helpful at 6am let me tell u lol

I have an understanding fiance thank god!I try to balance things the best I can,but like Alex the biggest show of my life is coming up and I'm just focused. She tells me just concentrate on show.So thats what I'm doing :D

The wife and i do the same shows, so we are working together towards a common goal. We do our best to support eachother, share lifes responsibilties, and most importantly we have fun. We let each other chill when necessary and it sometimes is...
We don't neglect the boyz as they have their own athletic interests. So they are interested in our activites and we in their's.
