My brother is a pharmacist, we had a very interesting conversation last night

Talking to my brother last night on the phone and we talked about AAS and other meds, and then the topic of general physicians came up. This is very interesting and new news to me. According to him, do you know how many courses on drugs most general physicians take in school? ONE!! The topic came up because I explained to him how if your a bodybuilder most Docs treat you like shit, or some little kid. Reason being is in most cases we know a SHITLOAD MORE about what we use than they do. Most of them dont even know what the hell winstrol or deca even is. Well in order to deal with you they come off like dickwads because they dont want to acknowledge the fact that you know something more than they do. We also got on the topic of medications they put people on and what I like to call "downstream medicine" I see it all the time in my line of work, almost everybody who has a heart attack or drops dead has 20 diff. bottles of medication on their nightstand. Half the meds the Dr. put them on they have no business prescribing to them in the first place, and those greedy fuckers know that is not solving the root of the problem. If someone has a complication from 1 med the Dr. puts them on another to counteract the shit. What they dont tell the patient is the fact that there is always something on the back end. By that I mean the drug may be patching the problem today, but jacking up calcium or potassium levels tomm. Another thing I learned, all these meds they prescribe are basically a means to counteract or treat a wide variety of things. They "think you may have this wrong with you" so they give you something that supposedly treats 20 different things hoping that you have one of those things, when in fact much of the time they dont know shit from rice krispies about what they're dealing with. Rather than sending you someplace else they leech off your insurance money and get rich. Now this doesnt apply to all Dr's so please nobody get offended. But dont swallow everything a Dr. gives you whole just because he holds the title MD. Just a thought, and a little insight

They also rely on their drug reps, who give them perks and kickbacks, to get drug info and prescribing guidelines. Ever notice those hot drug reps visiting Dr's offices? I've never seen an ugly drug rep.

Your brother is 100% correct and the problem is that the general public does not understand this and probably never will.

I have always felt that a person should research as much as possible about their own ailments. This is the reason we have a weight epidemic bcuz ppl dont even know how to feed themselves right or just dont put in the time and effort. I hate dealing with some doctors when it comes to meds or course of action for your problems. I also feel like a criminal getting a script filled, they have to call the doc and check this and that. Its like were not allowed to decide what and how much of what goes into our bodies and we have to pay them to tell us, what a crock. good post and that is very interesting about how much schooling is involved about meds.

My doctor just goes to his treatment books, looks up symptoms, and prescribes whatever the book tells him to. Like that's hard.

Any more I just go by what my mom tells me. Pretty sure a nurse of nearly 30 years knows more than a doctor straight out of college. I just go to him because he is covered on my insurance and I can persuade him to get drug X over drug Y. Sort of a pushover.

I myself am a nurse but have no where near the drug experience my mom has.

Just tell him you have low testosteron and ask if there is something he can perscribe for ya lol

He'd see my age and start going "WTF? He has low test and is my age! Oh shit!"

Knowing my luck he'd demand a blood test. Bleh....

I could not agree with you more on this. I had a knee problem and I went to the doctor and he was so quick to give me a cortisone cocktail. He also stated that I had bursitis.:( I went to my speacialist and he did x-rays etc. and could not properly diagnose me. So I started researching about my flat feet and ended up trying some orthos out and lo and behold it has actually worked and I am back to normal training. I spent almost a year training through the pain and just hoping for some miracle or doctor that could solve my issue......

thats so true:D lol

Unfortunately, like many things, medicine is now purely a business.

Pride.

I think they [some docs ] get used to people coming to them who know zero about health and pharmacology. Once a person thinks they know everything, they get pretty bitchy when their little kingdom is challenged with a question or two. I've seen it as well.

It's sad. :(

"ARE YOU PEOPLE CRAZY!!! THEY ARE DOCTORS!!! they know more than you know about everything in the universe! if they tell us to drink battery acid to cure colds, we SHOULD do it without ever questioning their authority, because they are sent by god and never make any mistakes at all... NOT EVEN ONE MISTAKE, EVER!!!"

yup... this is what most people truly think...

*LOL*. This has been going on for ever. I don't how many times I have finished his sentence before he gets it out!. He always looks at me with, humiliation! I tell em it's ok, I think he is jam up, jelly tight!. However, whatever he prescribes, I always research until I take! Peace!

Kinda on subject .....
Had a fellow Marine with a 5 yr old that was diagnosed with a certain cancer. Of course the Doc wanted to start Chemo. Now Chemo is going to shut down a weak little boy till his death & we know this. My friend found alternative cancer treatments that are legal outside the US that have shown more success in treating this particular cancer in kids than chemo many times over.... & much cheaper to boot..... So my friend sells everything & moves to seek alternative treatment for his son. Right then & there the FDA made him a criminal. He was instantly not suitable to be parent. Several months later they returned to the states with his son that had improved immensely. The FDA told him they would take his kid away if he sought alternative treatment again. They told Jim that AFTER Chemo had failed , he was free to seek alternative treatment ! So they went through with chemo & 6 weeks later his sons systems basically shut down , his cancer that was shrinking had returned to its original size & spread to other areas. He died.
Now as Parents we THINK we have control of our kiddo's best interest medically...... not so. The FDA did not want to here anything about the massive improvements the kiddo had made in such a short time.

I asked Jim why he thought the FDA would do that @ the funeral.......
He told me "The money is not in the cure , It's in the medicine" :(

I honestly believe that cooperate greed & the fear of a new , much more efficient & cost effective cancer treatment killed his son. I think they are AFRAID of a cure. They would much rather stick to what they know & pump patients full of meds because it makes more money that way I guess.......

WOW! My heart goes out to the family bro. I absolutely hate to hear things like this. The FDA OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED AND MORE.:(

In reference to how some docs treat bodybuilders

I had to take a new doctor about 6 years ago when I moved. I made the mistake of telling the doc that I was using steroids. I had high blood pressure and wanted to be straight with him. Now in most cases I believe it is best to be honest, but with this guy it was a big mistake. Treated me like a second class citizen. Made me feel like I was a heroin junkie or something. One of the questions he asked me was "do you share needles"? Another dandy was, "would you like me to test you for AIDS?"

I told a doc I used once, and he was like I bet your pecker doesnt work and your balls are gone huh. was it worth all that muscle?

I wanted to slap that prick. He ran an anti aging clinic and PERSCRIBED TEST TO PEOPLE.

That's absolutely terrible.

Personally, I would've completely snapped & fully punished those responsible, but truthfully, that job wouldn't ever be truly finished since all ignorant & apathetic sheeple are partly to blame in some small degree.

Brave heroes died to buy our right to vote with a ballot instead of a bullet, therefore we owe it to them to educate ourselves on all the major issues before voting.

People who vote based on selfish personal motives, socio-cultural allegiance & ignorance of opposing viewpoints are exactly what the drug industry execs are counting on.

Unfortunately, corruption runs deep through all major political parties in most nations, so unless a total political reform movement were brought through to power, it's debatable as to whether voting actually makes any significant difference at all...

I never would have returned to the nation that chose corporate profits over my kids' health. At least, I wouldn't return with my kid. I would have stayed in the country my kid got healed in & only returned home to make business arrangements etc.

That way, they couldn't take my kid away because he would be out of their jurisdiction. What would they do, seek my kids' detention & extradition back home based on me excersizing my parental freedom to ensure my kids health?

No offense intended to anyone but this thread pisses me off.

Physicians must take 2 years of inorganic and organic chemistry, 1 semester of biochemistry, and 1 year of physics and calculus . . . all in college.

When you get to med school, you take further biochemistry/histology/physiology/pathology classes. You then take a year of pharmacology. Pharm class isn't like you sit down and memorize all the drugs. You learn all the different catagories of drugs and their biochemisty.

Med school is to give you the science background that medicine is based on. You learn how to prescribe in your 3rd and 4th year in the hospitals/clinics and then in your residency in the "area" you are specializing in or in general medicine.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY TO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT ALL DRUGS. And that's not what a physician does anyway. Open up a PDR and pick 5 drugs at random and read about them. Now think how impossible it would be to have that kind of knowledge about every drug. And there are about 50 new drugs a week it seems.

That's why pharmacists do what THEY do and physicians do what THEY do.

It's unrealistic to expect a general physician to know a lot about something they don't treat every day. They forget more medicine in the two years out of school than anyone else would ever even know. That's why we have endocrinologists.

Lets not make the mistake of learning just a little about steroids and think we know more than we do. And let's not expect physicians to be "gods."
